Joshua Hugo Gustav von Bohlen is a English violinist of German descent who began his musical journey at six firstly piano inspired by his German Grandmother. Then at seven the violin, viola and tuba! He won a Lady Dacre Major Music Scholarship to attend Emanuel School London. During this time, Joshua successfully auditioned to attend Pro Corda International Chamber training academy and became leader of the Surrey County Youth Orchestra. While at school he won a scholarship to attend Trinity Conservatoire junior department, studying violin with David Brodowski and tuba with Oren Marshall where he was awarded the Vivian Joseph String Players Prize.

His musical education continued at Trinity Conservatoire as a exhibitioner with welcomed support from The Westminster Schools Trust where he studied with Boris Brovtsyn. Joshua graduated with BMus with Honours in Performance and Licentiate Diploma in Instrumental and vocal teaching with Distinction. Joshua was selected and benefited from masterclasses with international violinists and artists such as Zachar Bron, Ofer Falk, Rivka Golani, Clio Gould, Madeleine Mitchell, Ning Feng and Henk Guittart

Upon graduation Joshua studied in London with the international soloist and violin Professor, Dr.Remus Azoitei. As a soloist and avid chamber musician Joshua performed throughout the UK and Europe on stages such as Musikverein in Vienna, Royal Festival Hall and St John's Smith Square. Joshua was invited to attend a masterclass course with esteemed international violin Professor Zakhar Bron in Berlin, resulting in a performance with orchestra of the Beethoven Romances. He has also received awards that include 1st prize chamber winner of the international Virtuoso Competition in Vienna with Pianist Saki Matsumoto. https://www.musikverein.at/konzert/eventid/8887

Joshua successfully auditioned for a place at the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music to study violin Masters MMus with Professor Yossi Zivoni. Joshua is grateful for support from The Humphrey Richardson Taylor Trust and The Kathleen Trust.

As an orchestral musician Joshua enjoys playing with a variety of orchestras throughout London and the Home Counties, including performances alongside members of London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and a live broadcast on BBC Radio 3 with BBC Symphony Orchestra and BBC Singers. Currently, Joshua holds the position of leader at the following orchestras: Surrey Philharmonic Orchestra, Dorking Philharmonia and Kingston Third Age Orchestra. Joshua is much in demand as a teacher and holds teaching posts at Ewell Castle in Surrey and the City of London School London. This dedication to teaching has resulted in being appointed by KMS Director of Kingston String Sinfonia. This group is an innovative ensemble of young musicians, for which he was nominated and received a Leader award from the Jack Petchey Foundation performing at City Hall, London
